Stomp! A mass media. Is it good or bad?

Hey people, have you guys heard or came across with the website Stomp before? If yes good for you.

However, if you are unfamiliar with this website. You should check it out!

Stomp is categorized under a mass media tool and a place for mass communication to take place. It is a so called ‘online portal’ for citizen reporting and the prospect was promising. Finally, there is a platform for us Singaporeans to write and report without being bounded by red tape (although I DO suspect there are still some in place). Users, also known as Stompers, are allowed to upload pictures and include stories under the Singapore Seen section, afterwhich other Stompers can view and comment on.

There are pros can cons of course.

In my opinion:

PROS
Stomp Singapore seen can be informative and can become a useful tool to create public awareness over a certain problematic issue such as a report about the dangers of children playing on a 21st story rooftop and the leading consequences. It has somehow played a role as a surrogate parent educator for the public which is beneficial to the society.

CONS
However, there are reports that are overboard, ridiculous and also mostly insignificant. I think it's become more of a hip thing to report something there. Suddenly, everyone's turned into the paparazzi.

So what's your take on this?

heh yea, stomp is becoming paparazzi and tabloid-ish. but its bound to be the case when information is so freely accessible. on the whole, stomp raises awareness on many social issues which are overlooked and/or taken for granted.

I think stomp is a wonderful place for people to just talk about anything! yes, there are somethings that have come to a surprise to many, such as the students caught petting and all those stuff... well, they shouldn't be doing such stuff in public and its only right that such little topics get addressed and discussed in public as well!

It's like a place where everyone get together and discuss/gossip whatever about anything?! isn't that what freedom of speech is all about??

Well, overboarding and abusing the adventage of the mass communication is bound to happen when they launch a portal like this. It's just like a little hollywood trapped in singapore, so more or less people will want to make use or overuse it for their own interest. Well, it's not against the law, so who cares?

STOMP!

Actually, STOMP Singapore can be quite addictive. Although it's original plans have been for the public to use this site as a discussion site, but it has generally evolved into a tabloid news site for people to be amazed with what has been going on.

Even so, I find STOMP one of the best webs ever because there is so much to see from the there, the ugliest and the prettiest of Singaporeans which nobody would ever know of if without such a site.

It is a good discussion tool and network which lets people know about the small nitty gritty things that happen around Singapore.

Erm, i don't quite like STOMP. Some of their articles invade our privacy. It is something like a candid camera. However, there are also some interesting articles/pictures posted by netizens which i found it rare or surprising.

STOMP! It has became an online advertisement for your private lifestyle. As most youth are now excessively spending their time online on these portals, they have actually abused them. STOMP allows Singaporeans to be aware of the current social issues that are being faced, however to a certain extent it has been abused. Youth will take pictures of unglam actions or any scene that they reckon will create a hit topic in STOMP in which have indirectly invaded the person's life.

HAHA! since singapore IS known as being ever so 'kaypoh' i guess STOMP is an avenue for them to release whatever need they have to share, gossips and whatnots.
Anyway, everything on the internet is fully voluntary. be it blogs, tabloids or forums. even more so in the internet than the tv because you have to go to the trouble of looking for the link rather than just pressing one button on the remote. and you dont usually have people bugging you to switch "channels" while you're using the laptop; the convenience of clicking the cross as and when you like.
thus there really isnt anything to like or not about the site itself right?

though, I personally find STOMP rather entertaining :D
